Ewelina Pęksowa is one of the best-known and most acclaimed Polish glass painters. She was born and has always lived in Zakopane. Her father, Stanisław Zubek, was a woodcarver and ski maker. She began her artistic life sculpting and assisting him at his workshop. In 1968, she took part in a glass painting contest organized by the Tatra Museum. Since then, the glass painting has become her favourite mode of artistic expression. During Ewelina Pęksowa's career, she has presented her paintings at 54 individual and more than 300 collective exhibitions in Poland and across the world. She has participated in many artistic competitions and has won many awards.
Her glass paintings can be found in many Polish ethnographic museums as well as in museums in France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the US, at the Vatican and in many private collections in Poland and abroad. Also, several churches and chapels are decorated with the Stations of the Cross painted by Ewelina Pęksowa. She has received numerous prizes for her creations and her contributions to culture.
Over 270 works from the artist's collection are on display at the Art Gallery in Koziniec. These are not only glass paintings, created between 1968 and 2008, but also icons and ceramics.
The exhibition, under the honorary patronage of Janusz Majcher, Mayor of Zakopane, is accompanied by the brochure published by the Tatra Museum and financed by the Zakopane Town Council.
