ZYGMUNT JANUSZEWSKI - A MOUNTAIN OF MEANINGS

July 25, 2009 - September 27, 2009

The Władysław Hasior Gallery
ul. Jagiellońska 18 b, Zakopane

The exhibition presents unique engravings and drawings dating from 2000 to 2008. These pieces, which are full of inner emotions and experiences, feature signs and symbols that are interwoven with mountain landscapes and motifs to create a semiotic landscape. The mysterious force of the Tatra mountains lies in a tangled history of image, human lives, literature, contemporary thoughts on tradition and the individual interpretation of  forms and signs.

Since the very beginning of his artistic work, Zygmunt Januszewski has climbed A MOUNTAIN OF MEANINGS. The fascination for it grows with the flow of time; threads, paths, lines and metaphors until it reaches the dimensions of the cosmos and is ruled by its own laws. A MOUNTAIN OF MEANINGS includes paintings, installations, engravings, books; it embraces the whole of Januszewski's artistic output - it is a contemporary and very personal attempt at a dialogue between the intellect and forces of nature.
