WHAT'S ON IN 2010

We warmly welcome you to our Museum, which now has 10 venues located in Zakopane, throughout Podhale and the neighbouring Spisz regions. This year we are proud to present, among others, a series of temporary exhibitions from the world-renowned National Mountain Museum in Turin, Italy.

January 30 - March 14, 2010

Still-lifes and Portraits. Paintings by Anna Wojak
The Władysław Hasior Gallery
ul. Jagiellońska 18 b, Zakopane

The first of this year's exhibition series to showcase the artistic work of Zakopane's contemporary artists. Anna Tarnowska Wojak, who attended the Antoni Kenar Secondary School of Fine Arts in Zakopane, mostly paints still-lifes and portraits. For her an object constitutes a pretext for contemplating light and colour. By painting portraits (mainly of her family and friends) the artist strives to capture and convey what is most important and most difficult at the same time - a person's personality.

March 3 - April 25, 2010

When I Think of A HUMAN. Paintings by Marek Żuławski
The Art Gallery in Koziniec
ul. Koziniec 8, Zakopane

A presentation of the Tatra Museum's rich collection of paintings by Marek Żuławski, a well-known artist who lived in Zakopane as a schoolchild. He spent most of his working life in London and won recognition there for his paintings. This exhibition, an extensive review of the artist's works, is being held on the 25th anniversary of Żuławski's death which falls in April. Marek Żuławski experimented a lot in his paintings, drawing from the experience of various trends in contemporary art, but always using them in his own individual manner, while remaining faithful to figurative painting.

Mountains through Games.
Between the Summits and Snows of Board Games
The Art Gallery in Koziniec
ul. Koziniec 8, Zakopane

Among the thousands of board games produced between the 19th century and today, those which have mountains as the subject are extremely rare. Mountains stand tall before us; high, steep and severe, they often remain unconquerable. To dominate them, one has to climb them. How can we translate all this into a board game? We hope this exhibition gives you some answers.

The Władysław Hasior Gallery
ul. Jagiellońska 18 b, Zakopane

Motifs of mountains have appeared not only in high art but also in posters, book covers and everyday articles such as labels used on wooden boxes to transport fruit across the world. The National Mountain Museum in Turin's collection of such fruit-box labels dates from between 1900 and 1960.
